John Harold Force (born May 4, 1949 in Bell Gardens, California) is a professional drag racer in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). He has won 16 Funny Car championships and owned 18 championship cars. John Force Racing is owned and operated by Force, who also drives for the team. He has 134 career wins in drag racing, making him one of the most dominating drivers in the sport. In addition to graduating from Bell Gardens High School, he briefly attended Cerritos Junior College, where he participated in football. He is the father of drag racers Ashley Force Hood, Brittany Force, and Courtney Force, as well as the grandfather of Ashley Force Hood. Adria Hight, his eldest daughter, works as the Chief Financial Officer at John Force Racing [JFR]. His son-in-law Robert Hight, as well as his daughters Brittany and Courtney, are now racing under his sponsorship. In July 2013, Jimmy Prock took over as crew chief for John, and Mike Neff will take over as crew chief for Robert Hight, who was previously the crew chief for rival driver Gary Scelzi. Robert Hight raced in a 4th Funny Car for Team Force from October 26, 2007, following the death of Eric Medlen, until the end of the 2009 season. Mike Neff has returned as crew chief for John. Nevertheless, in 2010, after a ’09 season in which John did not win a single race, Force retired his fourth vehicle and appointed Neff as his new crew chief in place of John Neff. Force went on to win his 15th National Hot Rod Association Championship as a consequence of this decision. In the sport of drag racing, he is known as “Brute Force” by many of the drivers as well as numerous broadcasters, a moniker he gained via his dominant performances during his streak of 10 consecutive National Hot Rod Association titles. Force, his three daughters, Courtney, Ashley, and Brittany, and his son-in-law, Robert Hight, are collectively referred to as “The First Family of Drag Racing” in the drag racing industry.
