Lawler was born to Jerome Lawler and Hazel Lawler. He shares the same parents with his brother, Larry Lawler.
Lawler graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis, Tennessee in the United States of America.
Lawler is a professional wrestler and color commentator from the United States. Although he hasn’t worked as a full-time commentator since April 2020, he is currently signed to WWE.
He wrestled in many areas before joining WWE (then known as the World Wrestling Federation) in 1992. During his career, he won numerous championships, including multiple World Heavyweight Championships.
In the 1980s, Lawler had a talk program on WMC-TV in Memphis called “The Jerry Lawler Show.” Lawler made an appearance in Jim Carrey’s 1998 movie Man on the Moon.
Lawler ran for Memphis, Tennessee, mayor in 1999. His program emphasized enhancing city aesthetics, making streets safer for locals, and elevating educational standards.
In addition, he pledged to lower property taxes, increase parks, enhance traffic flow, and draw businesses to Memphis. With 11.7% of the vote in the end, Lawler defeated twelve of the fifteen contenders.
Lawler has won the AWA World Heavyweight Championship once, the WCWA World Heavyweight Championship three times, and the USWA United World Heavyweight Championship 28 times. He unified the championships by defeating Kerry Von Erich at Superclash III.
He is also well-known for his conflict with comedian Andy Kaufman, and in the 1999 movie Man on the Moon, he played himself.
Lawler has won more prestigious titles than any other professional wrestler in history, yet since joining WWE, he has only sometimes engaged in competitive wrestling while largely serving as color commentator. Lawler was admitted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
In the 2000 music video for Clay Davidson’s song “I Can’t Lie To Me,” Lawler had a very fleeting cameo. He published his autobiography, It’s Good To Be The King… Sometimes, on December 17, 2002.
In a special election for mayor held on July 8, 2009, Lawler campaigned for office once more. The election was held on October 15, 2009. With 4% of the vote, he came in fifth.
Lawler is a commercial artist that has created graphics for a number of businesses, including WWE. He painted the wrestling comic book Headlocked’s cover in 2007.
He portrayed Sheriff Jackson Cole in the horror comedy Girls Gone Dead in 2012. For a number of WWE video games, Lawler has lent his voice. He has also contributed as a commentator in several games.

In Downtown Memphis, Tennessee’s Beale Street, Lawler and his business partner Barry Aycock opened King Jerry Lawler’s Hall of Fame Bar & Grille, a place with a wrestling motif. In Cordova, Tennessee, the following year, Lawler founded King Jerry Lawler’s Memphis BBQ Co.
The wrestling and popular culture podcast Dinner with the King was introduced by Lawler in March 2017. Glenn Moore serves as his co-host, while Pod Avenue is the podcast’s producer.
After Moore was accused of defrauding Lawler fans who attempted to purchase goods and artwork from Lawler, the podcast’s production was put on hold. The Jerry Lawler Show is a new podcast that Lawler and his new co-host Scott Reedy launched in 2019.
