The 5 Best Products For Heatless Styling

Seasonal changes can be challenging for textured hair. And we all know that not all products are created equal, so determining what works best to produce a look without using any heat is even more difficult.

Although many naturals avoid using hot tools on their hair to prevent damage, understanding what steps they need to take to prep and protect their hair is just as important. The first step, according to Jennifer Lord, hair designer and author of Natural Hollywood, is to properly wash and condition your hair.

"I recommend using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner," says the expert. "Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair. Then style the hair with an anti-frizz, moisturizer, or anti-humectant product."

While keeping heat to a minimum is the healthier option for textured hair, one of the most common concerns about going heatless is the possibility of frizz. To combat this, Lord recommends applying the product to the entire hair shaft and using your fingers to achieve the desired style while holding the hair tight. For natural hairstyles, she recommends detangling thoroughly and performing a refined comb out. "After using a moisturizing and anti-frizz product, allow the style to settle for the night," she says."The next day, play with the style to achieve the desired look."
